Cabozantinib

Cabozantinib

Cabozantinib (Cabometyx®), which received FDA approval on 25 April 2016, is used in patients previously given treatment to inhibit new blood vessel formation, who have kidney cancer . Cabozantinib exerts its effect through structures called kinases.

By inhibiting the functioning of kinases such as MET, VEGFR 1-2, RET, ROS 1 and KIT, it prevents spread to distant tissues (metastasis), new blood vessel formation and development of resistance to drugs. The most common side effects include diarrhea, fatigue, nausea, reduced appetite, high blood pressure and vomiting.
