Uridine Triacetate

Uridine Triacetate

On 11 December 2015, the FDA approved use for

  • any adverse symptoms following overdose of the drugs fluorouracil and capecitabine,
  • or early life-threatening cardiac or neurological side effects occurring within 96 hours of fluorouracil and capecitabine intake

of Uridine Acetate (Vistogard®), an emergency medicine and a type of antidote. After oral administration, it prevents cell damage and destruction, thereby blocking the action of the chemotherapy drug fluorouracil. It must not be used outside these circumstances, as otherwise it reduces fluorouracil and capecitabine's treatment effectiveness. The most common side effects are vomiting, nausea and diarrhea.
