Advances in Infection-Related Cancers – An International Editorial Role

In this article
A special issue shedding light on the relationship between oncogenic infections and cancer is now available!
Research at the intersection of cancer and infections has always been a particular interest in my clinical oncology practice. I am therefore greatly honored to serve as editor of the special issue of MDPI's Viruses journal entitled "Oncogenic Infections and Cancer: Clinical Insights and Emerging Therapeutics".
In this special issue, we aim to address the contributions of infectious agents such as HPV, EBV, HBV, HCV, HTLV-1, and Helicobacter pylori to cancer from a broad perspective spanning diagnosis to treatment. We are planning multidimensional content ranging from the effects of oncogenic infections on the immune system to molecularly targeted therapies, and from vaccine development strategies to immunotherapies.

🌍 International Collaboration and Scientific Contribution
This scientific initiative aims not only to provide new knowledge but also to bring together researchers and clinicians from different disciplines. Representing Türkiye in this endeavor, which I am undertaking together with Dr. G. Hossein Ashrafi of Kingston University in the United Kingdom, is a particular source of responsibility and motivation for me.
I would also like to extend special thanks to my valued colleague Muharrem Okan Çakır, a member of the editorial team who contributes to this process with scientific rigor. He plays an important role in maintaining scientific quality during manuscript evaluation and in communicating with reviewers.
📅 Manuscript Submissions Are Open
Scientists from around the world can contribute to this forthcoming special issue until December 31, 2025 . Accepted studies will be published on an ongoing basis in the journal's dedicated collection.
🎓 Why Does It Matter?
Oncogenic infections account for approximately 15% of all cancer cases. That means millions of new cases each year. Understanding how viruses and bacteria contribute to cancer is not simply a matter of scientific curiosity; it is also a life-saving responsibility.
