In this article
On 15 December 2020, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), an agency of the World Health Organization, published its latest estimates of the global cancer burden, namely World Cancer Statistics. Accessible online as part of the IARC Global Cancer Observatory, the GLOBOCAN 2020 database provides incidence and mortality estimates for 36 cancer types and all cancer types combined in 185 countries for 2020. The global cancer burden is estimated to be increasing. In 2020, 19.3 million new cases and 10.0 million deaths were reported; in 2018, 18.1 million cases and 9.6 million deaths had been reported. In 2012, the annual number of new cancer cases was 14.1 million and the annual number of cancer deaths was 8.2 million. These figures should not be interpreted as cancer "frequency".
Worldwide, one in every 5 people develops cancer during their lifetime, and 1 in every 8 men and 1 in every 11 women dies from cancer (see World Cancer Statistics 2020).
Worldwide, the total number of people alive within 5 years after a cancer diagnosis, called 5-year prevalence, is estimated to be 50.6 million in total.

Above are the 35 different cancer types seen in Turkey, listed in order of frequency.
Above;
- The first chart shows the top 10 most common cancers in men and women (the annual number of new cancer cases per 100 thousand people).
- The second chart shows the distribution by sex of the top 10 cancers causing the most deaths (the annual number of cancer deaths per 100 thousand people).
