Ramucirumab Cyramza

Ramucirumab Cyramza

Approved by the FDA on 24 April 2015, Ramucirumab (Cyramza®) is used after initial bevacizumab, oxaliplatin and fluoropyrimidine treatment in distantly spread colorectal cancer (large intestine cancers) with Folfiri. It acts through VEGFR2, responsible for new vessel formation and present on cancer cells. Blocking VEGFR2 prevents both further proliferation of cancer cells and their spread to distant tissues.

High blood pressure (hypertension), diarrhea and headache are the most common side effects; patients should particularly be monitored closely for bleeding.
