The Unbearable Friendship Between Sedentary Living and Cancer!

New research by the Roswell Park Cancer Institute in the United States found a link between sedentary living and kidney and bladder cancer risk.
The article in Cancer Epidemiology enrolled patients with kidney cancer : 160, bladder cancer : 208, and 766 controls, examining whether lifelong physical inactivity was associated with kidney or bladder cancer risk.
Using multivariable logistic regression, researchers observed significant positive associations between lifelong inactivity, or sedentary living, and cancer; results showed kidney cancer risk increased %77 and bladder cancer risk %73. No clear association between obesity and these cancers was found.
The authors emphasized growing evidence that sedentary living may be an important independent cancer risk factor, and the need for larger comprehensive studies to fully explain its association with these cancers.
Researchers say, “We hope people are motivated to abandon sedentary living and undertake physical activity - exercise .” “You do not need to run a marathon to reduce cancer risk, but you need to do something. Even small efforts help: using stairs instead of elevators, walking around your workplace at lunchtime if possible, or parking farther from the grocery store and walking.”
Dr. Cannioto of Roswell Park’s Department of Cancer Prevention and Control said, “Our findings underline how important this is for maintaining a healthy lifestyle.”
Dear readers, achieving the healthy life we dream of and combating deeply harmful diseases such as cancer is not actually difficult. As with all diseases, our main cancer goal should be preventive methods . Applying simple, appropriate daily rules can prevent not only cancer but many chronic diseases that may be fatal or cause permanent damage.
